All rattan pendant light

Before you browse, here is what most buyers want to know upfront:

• Best for: Coastal, Boho, Scandinavian, Organic Modern, and Japandi (Japanese-Scandinavian minimalist) interiors, and any room where you want warmth without weight.
• Sizing rule: Choose a pendant roughly 1/2 to 2/3 the width of your dining table. When you are deciding between two sizes, go larger. An undersized pendant reads as an afterthought.
• Hanging height: Keep the bottom of the shade 30–36 inches above a countertop or tabletop; leave at least 7 feet of clearance in open walkways.
• Bulbs: A 2700K warm-white LED brings out the weave's texture beautifully. For dramatic shadow patterns, try a clear Edison-style bulb; for softer, glare-free light, choose a frosted bulb.
• Bathrooms and patios: Choose a Damp Rated design (Safe for humid, covered areas like bathrooms with ventilation and covered patios; not for direct rain) from the Outdoor Rattan collection for humid or covered-patio spaces. Standard indoor rattan is not suited to moisture-heavy environments.
• UL Listed: Independently tested to U.S. electrical safety standards by UL

Buying Guide — What are rattan pendant lights?

Rattan pendant lights are ceiling fixtures with shades handwoven from rattan, a fast-growing climbing palm harvested primarily in Southeast Asia. Like any pendant, they hang from a canopy on an adjustable cord (you can shorten or lengthen it during installation to suit your ceiling) with a lamp holder inside.

What sets a woven shade apart is how it handles light: the open weave scatters a soft, warm glow and casts gentle, layered shadow patterns across the ceiling and walls, so the fixture works as both task lighting and a sculptural focal point.

Every Rowabi rattan pendant is handwoven by artisans in Vietnam; complex designs take up to 136 hours per piece. No two shades are exactly identical, so every fixture carries the maker's hand in a way mass-produced lighting simply cannot replicate.

Why choose a rattan light?

Here are a few compelling reasons why a rattan pendant light is the perfect addition to your space:

• Renewable material. Rattan is a rapidly renewable plant fiber, a lower-impact choice than plastics or metals when responsibly sourced. It regrows far faster than timber and requires no replanting after harvest.
• Warm, layered light. The open weave diffuses light softly rather than directing it as a harsh beam. This quality makes woven shades particularly well suited to dining rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms where the goal is atmosphere as much as illumination.
• Natural-fiber shades weigh significantly less than glass or metal equivalents, which makes installation straightforward and repositioning easy if your layout changes.
• Style versatility. Natural tones sit comfortably within Coastal, Boho, Scandinavian, Modern Farmhouse, Organic Modern, and Japandi palettes alike. A rattan pendant rarely clashes; it belongs wherever warm materials and natural textures are part of the room's language.
• One-of-a-kind texture. Because each shade is handwoven, slight variation between pieces isn't a defect; it is evidence of craft. The texture catches light differently depending on the angle and time of day, giving the fixture a visual depth that printed or molded shades cannot achieve.

How to choose the right rattan pendant

Finding the perfect rattan pendant light comes down to a few key details. Here is a practical guide to help you choose the right one for your space:

How do I choose the right size?

Over a dining table, pick a pendant roughly 1/2 to 2/3 the table's width. A 60-inch table suits a shade between 30 and 40 inches in diameter; a 72-inch table suits 36–48 inches. For a single pendant over an open room with no fixed furniture reference, add the room's length and width in feet; that number in inches gives you a reasonable starting diameter. For example, a 12 × 14 ft room suggests roughly a 26-inch shade.

When you are choosing between two adjacent sizes, go larger. An undersized pendant over a dining table or island loses its presence and reads as decoration rather than lighting. An appropriately scaled fixture anchors the space.

How high should I hang it?

Keep the bottom of the shade 30–36 inches above the countertop or tabletop surface. In an open walkway or entryway where people pass directly beneath the fixture, maintain at least 7 feet of clearance from the finished floor to the lowest point of the shade. Every Rowabi pendant ships with an adjustable cord so you can dial in the precise height at installation rather than committing before you see it in the room.

For a complete height and spacing guide, including how to handle 8-foot ceilings, multiple pendants over an island, and vaulted ceilings, see our pendant light height guide.

Which bulb should I use?

A 2700K warm-white LED brings out the warmth of natural rattan fiber and suits bedrooms, dining rooms, and living rooms where the goal is a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. Open-weave shades pair particularly well with clear Edison-style bulbs, which cast intricate shadow patterns through the weave onto surrounding walls and ceilings.

For softer, glare-free light, especially in rooms where the bulb sits close to seated eye level, choose a frosted LED instead. All fixtures in this collection are dimmable (works with dimmer switches when paired with a compatible dimmable bulb).

Plug-in or hardwired?

Thirty-six designs in this collection offer a plug-in option: simply run the cord to a standard wall outlet, no ceiling box, no electrician, no drilling. It is the fastest way to add a pendant to a rental, a room without existing overhead wiring, or a space where you want the flexibility to reposition later.

Hardwired installation gives a cleaner finished appearance, no visible cord along the wall, and works with in-wall dimmer switches for seamless brightness control. Every order includes detailed installation instructions, and the adjustable cord accommodates ceilings from 8 to 12 feet without modification.

Indoor rattan or weather-resistant: which do I need?

If the space sees regular humidity, condensation, or outdoor air exposure, the material choice matters as much as the style.

Natural rattan indoors will last for many years in a dry, ventilated interior. In a bathroom with a window and good airflow, a Damp Rated fixture from the Outdoor Rattan collection is the appropriate choice. Neither collection is designed for direct rain exposure or fully uncovered outdoor installation.
