Choosing the right scale for an outdoor space requires a slightly different approach than indoors, as open-air environments can make fixtures appear smaller. Here is how to size your outdoor rattan lighting like a pro:
- For outdoor dining tables: Follow the "2/3 Rule." Your pendant should be approximately one-half to two-thirds the width of your dining table. For example, if you have a 72-inch rectangular patio table, a large 24-30-inch rattan pendant (or two medium-sized ones) will create a balanced look.
- For porch or gazebo seating areas: Use the "Room Sum" formula. Add the length and width of your covered area in feet (e.g., 10ft + 12ft = 22). That sum in inches (22 inches) is the ideal minimum diameter for your pendant. However, for outdoor spaces, we often recommend sizing up by 10-20% to ensure the light makes a bold, intentional statement against the vastness of the outdoors.
